UPHILL BATTLE
Chelsea face an uphill battle to reach the quarter finals of the Europa League after losing the first leg of their last sixteen tie to Steaua Bucharest.
Raul Rusescu’s 34th minute penalty was enough to settle the game, and give the Romanian side a slender advantage ahead of next Thursday’s return fixture at Stamford Bridge.
Petr Cech got a hand to the spot kick, which was given for a foul by Ryan Bertrand on Rusescu, but was unable to keep it out.
The Blues will now turn their attention to Sunday’s FA Cup quarter final against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have been named as a potential destination for United striker Wayne Rooney, amid reports that the striker could leave the Premier League leaders.
The Express lists the Blues with Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain as clubs who are in a position to make a bid for the England international, who was left out of the starting line up in his sides 2-1 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.
In other news, Oscar, Ramires and David Luiz have been named in former Blues boss Luiz Felipe Scolari’s squad for Brazil’s friendly against Italy, which will be played at Stamford Bridge on Monday, March 25th.
